First , tell us what you feel separates your business from other operations in the show pig business? Hogs are my entire life!  It’s my full time job, plus my hobby when I go home.  The fact that I was raised with a commercial background is a huge advantage to me, because I learned to care for, manage, sort, process and sell hogs from a very young age.  But, the biggest thing that separates Shaffer’s Gold Rush from the rest is the passion we have to want our customers to win.  Dad has instilled in us to care about EVERY customer whether they only buy one $200 show pig or a high dollar customer that buys multiple pigs.  This is why my sister and I started a blog to share our advice on everything from showmanship to feeding.  I also do many educational clinics throughout the year to prepare youth for hog shows.  We really want to take care of our customers even after the sale is made.  We really have a passion for pigs and people and mean it.

How do you keep your to-list? Like any former livestock judger, in my Steno Pad!

Besides your phone and computer, what gadget can't you live without and why? I don’t have any other gadget… a pen and paper is all I need!

What do you listen to while you work? Country music or KLove Radio

What everyday thing are you better at than everyone else? What's your secret? This is not an everyday thing but I am a pig whisperer.  You may laugh, but it is very true.  I can calm a crazy sow and train any show pig.  My secret is to stay calm!

What are you currently reading? I don’t have time read, I have a newborn!

How do you recharge? Sleep! And going to church, our worship service seems to always recharge me for the week!

What is your favorite and least-favorite chore? Favorite: Farrowing   Least-favorite: Power Washing (which my husband is excellent at!

How long does it take you to picture, sort and write a description for ONLY one pig in an online sale?  For just one pig I would say about two hours and this is just a guess because we usually do about 30 at a time and that takes a couple days.  Picturing is not easy!

Describe your ideal customer. All our customers are ideal!  However, I really enjoy the customers that have a deep passion for showing and take their swine project seriously.

What's the best advice you've ever received? If you take care of the customer, they will take care of you. Aimee Inskeep oversees the advertising and marketing Shaffer’s Goldrush; a boar stud that has around 100 show pig boars and 125 show pig sows. She lives with her family in Farmland, Indiana (2 miles from the farm). This past June Aimee and her husband Bradley welcomed their first baby, Cooper Philip into the world!

One word that best describes how you work: Oh I have no clue!  I like being prepared and organized for whatever the day is going to bring.

What websites, apps or tools can’t you live without? Why? Facebook for sure!  Not only is it a great way to stay in touch with friends who I don't get to see often, but it is also a great way to stay in touch with customers too.  I try to keep the Shaffer Goldrush page current and up-to-date.  Instagram is a close second, I love seeing pictures of all of my friend’s families and their adventures!  Pinterest can also get me in trouble too, I spend a lot of time looking at crafts and home improvements that I will never do!  I also love the blog, I Hate Green Beans, it recaps shows like The Bachelor and Dancing with the Stars, it is nothing to serious and gives me a good laugh when I am feeding Cooper early in the morning!
