Annika Spring may be new to being a show pig breeder, but being around livestock is something she has been a part of since she was a 9-year-old 4H member. Today, she and her brother are the proud owners of SpringHill Livestock with the support of their parents and Annika’s boyfriend, Andy Bates. The brother-sister duo was approached in the fall of 2021 with the opportunity to purchase the herd they had bought many show pig projects from during their 4H careers. Roger Malone of Malone Show Pigs offered them an opportunity they couldn’t pass up, now they just had to find a way and get their facilities ready. SpringHill Livestock is located in Galesburg, Illinois. The 15-sow operation focuses on raising quality Durocs, Spots, Berkshires, Hampshires and Yorkshires to sell to junior exhibitors.
“Our number one goal is to get live, healthy pigs on the ground. Without that, we cannot do anything else,” Annika says.
Each year the family works to grow their operation in quality, consistency and efficiency.
